Setting & Smashing Goals

Updated: Jan 3, 2022

I subscribe to the SMARTER goal-setting process for my personal and professional goals. If you know me, I'm a huge fan of Michael Hyatt and the Full Focus Planner system. His blog has a good primer post to the concept if you're not familiar.

When I went back through the last five years of goal setting, I realized three major things:

1) I reach about 65-70% of the goals I set. I'm proud of that.

2) I don't celebrate success enough. When I first did that self-analysis of my goals, I told myself I didn't reach 30-35% of them. I'm working on perfectionism.

3) I have consistently failed to make progress on my writing goals. For the last two years, I've set the goal of "write a book proposal by the end of the year." And you know what? I had no picture of what it looked like to meet it. I bought books on writing a book proposal, understanding publishing, etc. but I had not built the habit of actually writing every day. It's okay to laugh. I laughed too.

So, this year, I've set a goal of writing 20 minutes every day, minimum. I have a lot to say. My story is often factual, but not emotional - I want to open up about it more. I want to provide education on obesity care and more to share through my Instagram. I also dream of sharing the stories of others.

I'll write more about my other goals for 2022 soon. In the meantime, what content do you want to see on my blog?

Note: I'll recommend products, services, and accounts in my blog, but know that I will always disclose if your purchase or visit makes me any money or I have any personal gain.
